What happens when I dial 9-1-1?

You are automatically routed to a 9-1-1 dispatch center assigned to your phone number.  Cell phones are typically routed to the 9-1-1 dispatch center that corresponds to the cell tower that the phone is currently communicating with.

A trained dispatcher will ask about the nature of the emergency and then step you through a pre-determined series of questions to gather critical information in a timely manner.  Responses to specific questions determine at what point emergency services are dispatched.

NOTE: The Glacier View Fire Department is NOT a staffed department.  Calling the fire station only delays a timely response to your emergency.  It is an all volunteer organization whose members carry pagers and radios.  When dispatch pages Fire Department Members they radio dispatch to indicate they are responding to the emergency.  The members typically respond directly to the fire station using their personal vehicles.  A select group of members also keep fire department vehicles at their homes.  These vehicles are called "Squads" and they typically respond directly to the emergency unless they have to pass the fire station to get to the emergency.
