Medical Emergencies
When the emergency is of a medical nature several things are set in motion.
An ambulance from
Poudre Hospital
is automatically dispatched and begins its journey
to our district. If the emergency is of a life threatening nature such as
heart attack, stroke, etc. a helicopter is dispatched automatically if certain conditions exist (i.e. good weather and visibility,
availability of a helicopter, etc.). Our members are paged and begin response to the station.
Due to the volunteer nature of our organization there are rare occurrences where
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) are not available to respond to the emergency.
In these instances we will call upon a neighboring agency to assist us with any
medical resources they have available. In the event that no medical resources
are available from any source the ambulance from
Poudre Valley
always has a Paramedic
on board.
As members arrive at the fire station they are assigned to a responding vehicle
(i.e. Ambulance, fire engine, etc.). Once these assignments are made and any
necessary gear is donned the members respond from the station to your emergency.
Upon arrival at the emergency an EMT or First Responder will make contact with the
reporting party and/or patient(s). If it is determined that transport to the
hospital is necessary the patient(s) will be carried to the ambulance and a rendezvous
point with either the Poudre Valley Ambulance or helicopter will be established.
Once our ambulance reaches the designated rendezvous
point the patient is transferred
into the care of a Paramedic for the final transport to
Poudre Valley Hospital
.
This system allows our ambulance and responding members to return to service as
quickly as possible so that additional emergencies can be handled in a
timely manner.
